Objectives

  • Improve passing accuracy
  • Develop game vision and anticipation
  • Increase ball movement speed
  • Improve awareness of teammates’ positions

Equipment needed

  • Balls
  • Plates (to mark out the circle)
  • Bibs (optional, to differentiate between teams)

Age group

  • Junior G to adults players

Number of players

  • Minimum of 4 players

Theme

  • Warm-up
  • Passing

Duration

  • 5 to 15 minutes

Organisation

  • Arrange the plates in a circle or square (adjust the diameter according to the age and number of players: 8m for F and up to 15m for active players). Place the players between the plates around the circle with 1 ball. A defender stands in the centre of the circle (often the last to arrive at training). The attackers keep enough distance between them to allow for clean passes.

Procedure

  1. The attackers make quick passes to each other in a circle.
  2. The defender in the centre tries to intercept the ball.
  3. If the defender touches the ball or intercepts a pass, they swap places with the player who made the mistake.
  4. If 10 (or a number to be defined) passes have been made, the defender does another round.

Variations

  • Increase the difficulty: add defenders.
  • Reduce the space: decrease the diameter of the circle.
  • Limit touches: maximum 2 touches per person. (1 for advanced levels)
  • Rotate positions: after each pass, the player moves to a new free position
